Meet Friendly Nash

Update 6-16-07:

Just finish helping Pei-Lan cleaning up Nash's poo mass.... He just went out to the backyard for his evening bathroom routine and accidentally stepped into his own poo.....  We didn't see it until he walked into PL's bedroom, and when PL try to get him into the bathroom to clean his feet, he was so grumpy that he barked angrily at PL!!! We were taken by surprised!!! In the end, the food trick always work and PL finally got him into the bathroom, and I was mopping the poo trail he left on his way in..... Taking care of a dog is really a lot of work!! Kind of like mom said, 把屎把尿.......

Just came to visit Pei-Lan's new house, and finally met her new dog - Nash. He is a BIG dog!!! At first I wasn't sure about him, but he is actually a really nice dog, never bark, doesn't jump on people, and sleeps most of the day. Even mom who is really afraid of dogs are doing fine with Nash. 

 

He is a greyhound, used to race before, but he is now retired because he is not really a great race dog...... There is actually an association called Compassion for Greyhounds that helps these retired greyhounds find new homes. I think it is a great thing to do!!!! Sometimes he still shows his race dog instincts when he sees a rabbit or squirrel when we went on walks, it is quite interesting~~~~ He look skinny but actually it is quite normal for greyhounds to show their ribs, I guess they have to stay fit to be a great race dog~~ Because they do not have much fat on them, they are really afraid of cold. In the winter, they have to wear a coat when going outside~ This is Nash's favort spot in the house, cause there is an outlet for aircondition under the sofa......  

 

According to Pei-Lan, greyhounds live as a pack, so they are very afraid of loneliness, that is why Nash follows around people. He really doesn't like to be alone, goes wherever we goes. When Pei-Lan leaves for work in the morning, he will stand by the door and cry a little bit, then he will come over and stick out his neck to ask for a pet, so cute!!

 

 

Greyhounds are also the only kind of dog that actually smiles, I think it's because they have a long nose. When they smile, they will show their teeth, it's kind of a funny smile......  He must be having a good dream cause he was smiling while he was sleeping~

 

Maybe it's because greyhounds race the whole time, and no one taught them how to play, they really don't know how to play...... Nash got a new toy yesterday but he just sniffed it for a while then he lost interest...... Pei-Lan said she should bring him to meet other dogs so he can learn how to play~~
